KEARNEY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kearney Police Department says there is no ongoing threat to the community after a large police presence was seen at the Kearney School District’s south campus on Monday.

According to the district, a weapon was found in a parked car at the KSD tennis courts, situated south of the Kearney Senior High School building. Officers detained two people and said no injuries were reported.

In a letter to parents, the Kearney School District said the discovery was “in violation of our student code of conduct and KSD Board policy” and encouraged parents to talk to their kids about school safety.

“The students involved will be disciplined accordingly,” the district continued.
