BUCHANAN, Mich. (WNDU) - A Buchanan High School student was able to compete in Michigan’s high school state competitions for both cross country and marching band despite the competitions taking place on the same day and in different locations.
Charlie Spencer is a sophomore at Buchanan. This year marks his second year in the high school cross country team, and his team made it to 2025 Michigan High School Athletic Association’s cross country state finals on Saturday in Brooklyn, Mich.
But there was another state-level competition that same day — the 2025 Michigan Competing Band Association’s state championship final contests in Detroit.
After running five kilometers for cross country, Spencer had about two hours to travel from Brooklyn to Detroit, which takes about an hour and a half.
