BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Neighbors and business owners in Birmingham’s Five Points South are trying to recover after a fire Friday morning destroyed several historic buildings along 20th Street South .
Fire officials said no one was hurt, but several people lost their homes and businesses in the blaze that swept through the Cobb Lane area.
Savannah Harbek, who owned a salon in one of the buildings, said the fire destroyed not just her business but a place filled with family memories.
“My family owned The Back Alley. We had the Cobb Lane Restaurant. I have been to so many bridal showers and bridal teas, and birthday teas. My dad and step-mom were married in the courtyard behind us,” Harbek said.
Harbek said she woke up to a call from a resident who told her they had to evacuate
