Police in Majorca have initiated an investigation following the discovery of a British man's body on a waste ground. The grim find occurred around midday when a group of labourers noticed the lifeless body concealed in bushes.
The deceased, believed to be 64 years old, was found near Cala Llombards, a picturesque cove beach in the southeast of the island. Authorities have confirmed his nationality and are currently awaiting the results of an autopsy to guide their next steps.
Initial reports indicate that there were no visible signs of violence on the body or at the scene. However, police are not dismissing any potential scenarios until the post-mortem examination is completed. The autopsy is scheduled to take place later today at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Palma.
A spokesperson for the Civil Guard stated, "The dead man has been identified as a British national. The alarm was raised yesterday afternoon by a worker in the area around midday yesterday. The area in question is Cala Llombards in the municipality of Santanyi."
While the spokesperson could not confirm local reports that the man was found stark naked, he reiterated that the autopsy would clarify this detail.
Detectives have yet to determine whether the man was a tourist or a resident of the island, although he is believed to be a local. A witness living nearby reported having seen the man walking alone in the vicinity prior to the discovery of his body.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working diligently to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
