Delaware fire, EMS companies must change to remain sustainable

Delaware’s fire and EMS systems are a patchwork quilt of nonprofits, a consulting company found, and with continuing growth in demand, they aren’t financially sustainable.

Wilmington has the only fully staffed fire department in the state. Everywhere else, volunteers have long relieved local governments from fully funding fire and EMS services, reports from FACETS Consulting say.
