Little German Bakery's Berliners are massive, sweet and gooey

When Doris Whelan came to Canada from Germany in the 1980s, something was missing.

“There wasn’t any good bread,” remembers Doris, whose maiden name was Schüler. “I could eat six or eight slices and say, ‘Oh my God, I’m still hungry.'”

Whelan’s business, the Little German Bakery in Carleton Place , was born out of this need for heartier, more robust loaves.
