(WTAJ) — As the fall season hits full stride, Pennsylvania drivers are being warned to stay alert, it's peak time for deer-related crashes, and insurance claims are on the rise.
According to AAA East Central, October through December is when most deer collisions occur, with crash numbers climbing as the days get shorter and wildlife becomes more active near roads. In 2024 alone, Pennsylvania saw more than 6,400 deer-related crashes that led to 19 deaths, according to PennDOT.
AAA said these types of crashes aren't just dangerous, they're costly. The average deer-related insurance claim in the region is now around $5,600, and totals can climb depending on the extent of vehicle damage.
