INDIANAPOLIS — On Tuesday, Nov. 4, First American Nuclear (FANCO) announced they were moving to Indiana and planning to build their first energy park using their EAGL-1 small modular reactors (SMRs).
The project is expected to bring 5,000 jobs to the state. The headquarters will be in Indianapolis, but the location of the nuclear plant and energy park have not been announced.
Indiana lawmakers have been aggressively courting SMRs, with several bills introduced during the 2025 legislative session to attract them. As the name implies, SMRs are smaller than traditional power plants, which could let utilities scale them better to the needs of communities.
