CORTLAND, Ohio (WKBN) - Cortland voters are deciding an additional levy for the city’s police department.
The Cortland Police Department provides around-the-clock police protection with nine full-time officers and one part-time officer. Increases in overtime and healthcare costs are why the department is asking voters to approve an additional $1.5 mills, continual levy.
If approved, the levy would generate more than $315,000 a year for the department and cost the owner of a home appraised at $100,000 an extra $53 a year.
The levy would allow the department to maintain its current operations and a minimum staffing of two officers per shift.
