MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Steve Wood, an American Anglican archbishop, has retired from his rector position at a Mount Pleasant church amid sexual harassment allegations, officials said Tuesday.

In a letter sent to St. Andrews Church congregants, the Vestry gave unanimous approval for Wood's retirement request.

Although the retirement comes amid public allegations that Wood abused his position for power and committed sexual misconduct during his time at St. Andrews, Senior Warden Mike Hughes wrote that the decision to retire has been "in motion for some time," with Wood allegedly announcing his retirement plans to staff several weeks ago.

Wood has served in some capacity at St. Andrew's since his installation as rector on Sept. 1, 2000.
