FARGO — Just because the weather is cooling off doesn’t mean you’re done with yard work yet.

NDSU Extension Agent Don Kinzler says there are things you can do now to help your lawn next spring.

They include lowering your mowing height to about 2 inches to help prevent snow mold.

Kinzler says you actually don’t have to rake the leaves off your yard.

They can provide helpful nutrients for your lawn, especially if you use your lawn mower to mulch them into the grass.

“There’s a good case for instead of raking simply mulch those leaves down in. It’s important they get mulched down into the turf profile. They shouldn’t lay on the surface, otherwise they should be removed,” Kinzler said.
