The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Small Business Administration have provided funds Tempe to help residents and businesses following an Oct. 13 storm that caused severe damage to homes, businesses and public lands.

Though there were no severe injuries or casualties, Tempe has at least 58 businesses and more than 1,000 residences that have been classified as destroyed. Many more suffered severe damage to their property.

“Our longstanding relationships with state, county and federal governments as well as nonprofits have benefited our whole community during our time of need, and I thank them for standing alongside us,” Tempe Mayor Corey Woods said in a statement.

Woods and officials from the state and Maricopa County have declared an area of emergency due to the damage.
