A Chicago restaurant owner is opening his doors to serve free hot meals to help people impacted by SNAP benefit cuts in the city’s North Lawndale neighborhood.
Quentin Love spent Tuesday morning cooking in the kitchen of his restaurant as his staff prepared to hand out hot meals for free for the first time this week. The plates consist of chicken, Jamaican steamed cabbage and more.
"The labor of love right now is to make sure everybody in Chicago gets food," said Love, the owner and chef of The SoulFood Lounge near 16th Street and Hamlin Avenue .
Love is now calling on other restaurant owners to band together to help Chicagoans impacted by SNAP cuts and address an even bigger problem.
