WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - As SNAP recipients wait for funding, organizations and churches across Kansas are stepping in to fill the gap.
Members of New Life Covenant Church spent their Tuesday afternoon serving the community, providing food assistance to people impacted by SNAP benefits not being renewed for November.
“It’s stressful only because we have three kids,” said Shaquielle Garner, a neighbor who received assistance. “Kind of hard.”
Garner said he is the breadwinner for his family, but the government shutdown has made it difficult without benefits like SNAP. He said he is grateful for places like New Life that want to help.
“I thank God this morning that I was able to get this,” Garner said.
