WARROAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) -Border Patrol agents are implementing winter safety protocols along the U.S.-Canadian border as temperatures drop, officials said.
The preparations come as human smuggling remains a concern in the region, where an Indian family froze to death after being smuggled near Emerson, Manitoba in 2022.
“We want to clear up the border for those that cross the border legally and safely,” said Scott Garrett, Chief Patrol Agent for the United States Border Patrol Grand Forks Sector.
Immigration enforcement priorities
Garrett said part of the reason for immigration concerns stems from the Trump administration’s priorities.
“One of this administration’s main goals is to enforce the immigration laws of the United States,” Garrett said.
