BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - The Bismarck Police Department says vehicle-pedestrian crashes are unusual in the Bismarck area. But just in the last two weeks, two students at two different high schools were hit by a car while crossing the street.
The chances of being hit by a car while using a crosswalk are low, but they’re never zero. The Bismarck Police Department said that out of 8,000 vehicle accidents in the city over the last three years, about 0.8% involved a pedestrian.
Every day, students make their way across these crosswalks. And every day, they take the risk of being hit by a car.
On Oct. 21, a driver hit a 15-year-old Century High School student while he was in the crosswalk on Century Ave. He walked away with minor injuries.
