Democratic U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill has won New Jersey's gubernatorial election, defeating Trump-backed Republican nominee Jack Ciattarelli.

Sherrill is a four-term U.S. representative and former Navy helicopter pilot. Ciattarelli is a former state Assemblyman.

This is the second cycle in a row that Ciattarelli was the GOP nominee. In 2021, Ciattarelli came within about 3 percentage points of toppling current Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy.

Sherrill's win gives Democrats a sweep of the two major gubernatorial elections this year, joining former U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger's victory in Virginia.
