MESA, Ariz. — A gravel lot by the Salt River could one day be a hub for commercial development and a replacement for the aging Casino Arizona.

The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community posted a request for interest for the site near the northeast corner of where the 101 and 202 meet in Mesa.

The request outlines potential plans for what they’re calling the "Dobson Site."

Casino Arizona, which is about 25 years old, could be replaced under the proposal. The new casino would be on the east side of Dobson and might expand employment beyond the current 1,200 employees.

The development on the west side of Dobson would include commercial space.

The project could also extend Dobson Road across the Salt River, requiring a new bridge and road realignment.
