Kevin Fiala provided the insurance marker late in the third period as the Los Angeles Kings beat the Jets 3-0 in a tight-checking affair on Tuesday night.
Fiala gave the Kings a two-goal cushion with a power-play goal at 15:00 when his shot from middle ice sailed over the left shoulder of Connor Helleybuyck. Hellebuyck stopped 23 shots in the loss.
“They play hard,” Gabe Vilardi told reporters in Los Angeles. “They’re well-structured teams, especially in this building, and we knew we had to do when we got in on the forecheck. We had our looks. We had chances, a lot of power plays, couldn’t score a goal on (five) power-play chances.”
The goal snapped an 0-for-20 futility streak for the Los Angeles powerplay.
