A major retail shift is coming to the city’s west end on Nov. 14, 2025, with the grand opening of the new Costco warehouse at the Westport development near the Perimeter Highway and Portage Avenue. The new location will replace the longtime St. James site and mark a major reconfiguration of Costco’s footprint in Winnipeg.

Construction of the 166,984-square-foot store began earlier this year as part of the Westport mixed-use development on roughly 70 acres of land. Costco representatives say the new location near the intersection of the city’s major west-side routes is designed to relieve pressure on existing stores and provide a more convenient option for shoppers in western Winnipeg and nearby communities.
