Police in Edinburgh will have the power to stop and search people and vehicles 'where appropriate' as officers look to address any Bonfire Night disorder.
The powers come in from 3pm on Wednesday, November 5. Police will be implementing Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, which also allows for the removal of any items believed to be used to 'conceal their identity'.
The changes will be in place in Niddrie , Muirhouse, Pilton, Moredun, Gracemount, Saughton, Sighthill, and Longstone. This comes after several years of incidents in the capital, with antisocial behaviour seen across the city.
Fireworks were aimed at vehicles and a petrol station in Sighthill last year. In 2022, a vehicle was set on fire in a park on Bonfire Night.
