The Manitoba government says it has added 323 fully staffed hospital beds across the province since October 2023, including 10 new intensive care beds this year, to reduce emergency room waits and brace for the respiratory virus season. But frontline nurses say the changes have yet to make a noticeable difference for overwhelmed hospitals and exhausted staff.

Premier Wab Kinew and Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara announced the expansion Monday, calling it part of a two-year effort to rebuild capacity after years of staffing shortages and pandemic strain.
