The North Pole City Council adopted an ordinance that clarifies bed tax grant distribution on Monday, but rejected an amendment that would have kept 25% of the revenue as an administrative fee.

North Pole distributes its bed tax revenue to local nonprofits and organizations following a monthlong application period. The applications are scored, ranked, and finalized by the end of November.

However, the city keeps 5% of the overall bed tax revenue collected as an administrative fee. Mayor Larry Terch sponsored the original version on Oct. 20 to overhaul how the bed tax grant selection committee determines the amount awarded and spells out specific eligibility criteria.
