SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — Smithfield Superintendent Dawn Bartz has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a legal review into an alleged antisemitic hazing incident involving the high school's football team.

The district's attorney, Sean Clough, released a statement Wednesday saying the review involves the administration's handling of the situation.

"These steps ensure continued stability and focus on the needs of our students, staff, and families," the statement read.

Last week, the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office launched a civil investigation into the incident.
