SPRINGFIELD – For La Salle boys soccer coach Tom McCaffery, the only thing lacking from the Explorers’ effort Tuesday night was finding a way to put the ball into the net.
Emmaus’ stout defensive effort in the PIAA Class 4A first round match was the main reason why.
“We just needed that one moment of brilliance and unfortunately the brilliance came from their back line and their center backs who took care of everything they needed to,” McCaffery said. “And we just kind of ran out of time there.”
The Green Hornets’ Aleksander Przybylski converted on a penalty kick after a foul was called in the 18-yard box in the 27th minute and the visitors spent the rest of regulation repelling La Salle’s attacks, District 11’s runner-up holding on to claim a 1-0 victory at Flannery Field.
