10:15 p.m. – The downside of being a front-runner in the shadowy City Council speaker’s race is that it puts a target on your back. And on Friday night, an outgoing council member took very public aim at the one on Council Member Julie Menin ’s back. Council Member Diana Ayala , who represents Manhattan and the Bronx and who ran for speaker in 2021, accused Menin of bad-mouthing her as “not smart enough” or “educated enough” in that year’s race.
