MAINE, USA — NEWS CENTER Maine will host its annual Honor Flight Maine Telethon on Monday, Nov. 10, to raise funds to send Maine veterans on trips to visit the nation’s war memorials in Washington, D.C.
The telethon helps cover the full cost of each veteran’s trip, which averages $1,090 per participant. Donations support items such as veteran and guardian shirts ($45), meals ($66), bus rental ($87), lodging ($330), and airfare ($542). Even small contributions help pay postage for correspondence ($20).
Because Honor Flight Maine charters an entire aircraft, more veterans can travel per trip, and wait times for flights have been greatly reduced. The program is open to all veterans who served from World War II through the Vietnam War, regardless of where or how long they served.
