PITTSBURGH —

One person was in custody after a shooting at a Hill District apartment brought SWAT officers to the neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

The incident happened at Bedford Dwellings in the 2500 block of Bedford Avenue.

Pittsburgh Public Safety issued an alert saying a female victim was in stable condition after being shot in the leg, and that police were investigating "a possible barricade situation."

Police used a drone to spot a child inside the home. Officers told the suspect to come out, which he did shortly after, carrying the child.

The child was handed to a SWAT officer, then checked by medics and found to be unharmed. The child, about 3 years old, is now safe with family.
