COLUMBIA — Columbia's streets may be dry, but snowplows were out in full force Tuesday morning.

The city's annual "dry snow run" helps snowplow drivers test their routes, equipment and timing before the first snowfall this winter.

Each year, Columbia Public Works Department drivers run their full snow routes without snow on the ground. By doing this, they ensure everything runs smoothly before the weather makes it harder to adjust.

"They get a chance to learn the process that we go through for winter weather," said Richard Stone, engineering and operations manager for the Columbia Public Works Department.
