Votes are still being counted in the Mat-Su Borough, but early results show voters rejecting a proposed gas tax.
Ballot Question 2 asked whether the borough should enact a seven-cent-per-gallon fuel tax to fund road projects and reduce property taxes. Preliminary results show more than 8,000 voters opposed the measure, while roughly 3,400 supported it.
In Assembly races, early counts show Michael Bowles, Stephanie Nowers, and Maxwell Sumner leading. For the school board, Kendal Kruse, Brooks Pitcher, and Lorie Colee are currently ahead.
Voters also appear to have approved Proposition 1, offering a property tax exemption for seniors and disabled veterans, and Proposition 3, annexing parcels into the Meadow Lakes Road Service Area.
