OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington Governor Bob Ferguson announced the state has applied for the federal Rural Health Transformation Program, proposing a bipartisan plan to invest $1 billion across five years in rural health care.
The plan proposes an investment to support hospital infrastructure, with an emphasis on technology improvements, along with support for maternal health care and new facilities.
Additionally, Governor Ferguson says the plan will commit 10% of any funding awarded to the state to support Indian health care providers, which serve both Native and non-Native patients in some of the most rural areas of our state.
Of Washington’s 39 counties, 29 are considered rural, and more than 1 million people in Washington live in rural counties.
