CLARK COUNTY Wash. (KPTV) - A Vancouver man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Wednesday in Clark County for the killing of his roommate, according to court documents.

Prosecutors say 38-year-old Logan Melchert shot and strangled Khalid al-Hassan, who was also the romantic partner of Melchert’s sister, in the summer of 2023. Melchert then tried to cover it up by burning the body in a car and then moving the remains between two properties.

According to court documents filed on Oct. 10, 2023, Melchert told another inmate that his father left everything in his will to Melchert’s sister. However, Melchert’s sister was suffering from health issues, and Melchert feared she would leave the family business to al-Hassan, who Melchert called his brother-in-law.
