Katie Wilson gained on Bruce Harrell on Thursday in the tight race for Seattle mayor.

After Harrell ended Wednesday 8 percentage points ahead, his lead is now down to 5.7 points — 52.6% to 46.9%.

Harrell has 91,263 votes to Wilson’s 81,355.

The race is still a long way from being over. With Thursday’s release of more than 36,000 ballots, Seattle likely has between 100,000 and 110,000 left to count, according to King County Elections, all but guaranteeing the result will not be known until sometime next week.

That Wilson did well Thursday is not a surprise. Seattle’s late-counted ballots typically shift left, as they come from younger voters who either procrastinate or use drop boxes, many of which are located in the city’s denser and more progressive neighborhoods.
