LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- A woman from the Upper Peninsula pleaded guilty to Medicaid fraud as a habitual second offender Tuesday, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced.

Nicole Stouffer, 44, of Rock, was originally charged with 9 counts of felony Medicaid fraud in June 2023 after accusations she defrauded the home help program.

According to Nessel, Stouffer was approved by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to receive home help services in July 2021. The program allowed her to choose her own provider for said services, and she chose a family member, submitting logs to the MDHHS that supposedly verified the work done and dates worked from November 2021 through August 2022.

Stouffer received around $8,000 for said services.
