Manchester voters elected Republican incumbent Jay Ruais to a second term as mayor of the state’s largest city on Tuesday, with unofficial results showing he received 59% of the vote to defeat Democratic Ward 8 school board member Jessica Spillers (41%).

Former alderman, school board member and 2021 candidate for mayor Rich Girard announced a write-in campaign for mayor Oct. 28. About 350 write-in votes were cast Tuesday.

A total of 16,302 votes were cast in the mayoral race, with Ruais receiving 9,618 to Spillers's total of 6,684.

Ruais thanked Spillers for her “continued commitment to the city we both love,” and wished her well moving forward.
