COVINGTON, Ga. — High school students in Covington now have access to free groceries. Amazon and Goodr partnered to open a grocery store on campus at Alcovy High School on Wednesday, offering eligible students and their families food at no cost.

“Our school is located a little bit further away from everyone else, it’s what they call a food desert,” explained Principal Michael Chapple.

On Wednesday, Chapple and others cut the ribbon for the grand opening of the small store inside the school.

“I think it makes a difference because it’s not something that will fill the grocery basket, but in between times it will help students and their families,” Chapple said.
