ISLAND LAKE, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Minnesota’s deer opener is coming up on Saturday, Nov 8, and the United Northern Sportsmen’s Club wants hunters to sharpen up on their marksmanship and their safety skills ahead of time.

UNS instructors are donating time on their rifle range to help people sight in their firearms.

No one wants a game animal to suffer needlessly.

“It’s all shot placement, I don’t care how big your gun is, I don’t care how many bullets you can shoot, if you don’t hit a vital area, you are not going to get the game,” said Mike Hart of the club.

The United Northern Sportsmen have been around since 1945.

They have a traditional shooting range and a 77-yard loping deer target.
