JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) - The Johnson City Public Schools Foundation visited 10 schools on Wednesday and surprised 35 teachers with grants of $30,000 in total.
The funds were raised through the Mooneyhan Family Foundation and granted through the Johnson City Public Schools Foundation.
Teachers submitted their application grant requests in August. A grant committee then anonymously reviewed the requests.
Once grants are awarded, the foundation goes from school to school to surprise teachers.
Tembra Aldridge, director of Johnson City Public Schools Foundation, said it brought them joy to surprise the teachers.
"It's just a fun, exciting day that we get to give money away to all the teachers who need things in their classroom to teach, you know, and educate their students a little bet
