A senior RCMP officer who was one of the first to arrive at the scene of a policeman shot two years ago during a drug-related search at a Coquitlam condo high-rise testified on Wednesday how he tried to assess the officer’s injuries to determine if he needed medical help.

Supt. Christopher Goeble explained his role as the officer in charge at the scene as prosecutor Georgia Clark played CCTV footage from the elevator and lobby of the building.

The disturbing video showed Goeble and other officers dragging the body of Const. Rick O’Brien from the hallway on the 22nd floor of the building into the elevator.

Goeble testified he made the decision to get O’Brien to an ambulance after removing the officer’s body armour and firearm.
