Expect a total closure of traffic on U.S. 280 at certain times in Jefferson County this month.

The Alabama Department of Transportation said workers are scheduled to install the first girders for the new Pumphouse Road bridge.

The work will require the closure of all lanes to allow crews to install the 100-foot beams across the width of the highway.

ALDOT said the project begins at 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14.

All eastbound lanes of U.S. 280 will remain shut down through the morning of Monday, Nov. 17.

Westbound lanes will reopen each morning at 5 a.m. before closing again at 11 p.m.

ALDOT said all lanes at Pumphouse Road should be reopened by 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17.
