KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Police arrested a 28-year-old woman in Kansas City on a military desertion charge from Fort Riley.
According to Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records, Mary C. Brewer faces court-martial after authorities charged her with abandoning her post.

Court documents show Brewer was taken into custody on a warrant from Fort Riley Military Post in Geary County, Kansas.
Jackson County Judge Joel P. Fahnestock ordered Brewer to be extradited back to Fort Riley to face judgment.
Under military law , desertion penalties range from dishonorable discharge to confinement.
During wartime, the crime can carry the death penalty, though that has not happened since 1945 .
