CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man charged with murder who died at the Mecklenburg County jail in August was accidentally given another inmate's methadone dose hours before he was found unresponsive in his cell, according to an autopsy report released this week.
Miguel Angel Gonzalez-Rasalas, 38, died from methadone toxicity on Aug. 6 after staff mistakenly administered him a 110-milligram methadone dose intended for a recently discharged inmate, according to the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner's Office.
The manner of death was ruled an accident.
Gonzalez-Rasalas was not regularly prescribed opiates and typically received only divalproex and olanzapine at night for his bipolar disorder and schizoaffective disorder, according to the autopsy.
