CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Opening statements began Friday in the murder trial of two men charged with killing Scott Brooks, the co-owner of Charlotte's iconic Brooks' Sandwich House, during an armed robbery in December 2019.
Terry Connor and Steven Staples are charged with killing Brooks, who was shot to death at the restaurant. The two are being tried together in Mecklenburg County Superior Court.
Friday's proceedings began at 2 p.m. following the selection of a fourth alternate juror. After nearly two weeks of jury selection, attorneys for the prosecution and both defense teams presented their opening statements.
