HICKORY, N.C. — Two co-defendants plead guilty to charges involving an attempted armed robbery and attempted murder.
31-year-old Jay Christopher Corpening of Lenoir was sentenced to 7-9 years for attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon on Thursday, Nov. 6.
Marquel James Jackson was sentenced to 12-15 years for attempted first-degree murder, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and discharging a weapon into a moving vehicle on Nov. 4.
On Feb. 3, Corpening approached a woman in a hotel parking lot in Hickory in attempt to sell her drugs. When she refused, Jackson attempted to rob her. When she fled in her car, Jackson shot at the vehicle. Corpening also fired a shot but it did not hit the car or the victim.
