MACON, Ga. — A Georgia nurse is being hailed as a hero after her quick thinking and compassionate care helped rescue a young patient from human trafficking nearly a year ago.

Tiara McCoy, a pre-op nurse at Piedmont Northside Hospital in Maco n, recognized warning signs when a young girl arrived for surgery accompanied by an older man last year. Her intervention led to the patient's safe return to family and the man's arrest.

"I am a strong advocate for standing up and speaking up for what you believe in, so I didn't agree with what was going on with her, so I spoke up about it," McCoy said.
