A couple are getting a £1,200 refund for furniture that did not arrive after threatening to take The Range to court.

Stanley and Betty Chadwick, who are both in their 80s, ordered four electric recliner armchairs from the retailer for their Warden Bay home, on Sheppey , after visiting the Sittingbourne store on September 3.

Mr Chadwick – who is on morphine medication for rheumatoid arthritis – says the chairs would have made it easier for him to “get up and down” and he was “excited” to make use of them.

Parts of the chairs started to arrive two days later, with all but the backs and armrests of one of the seats being delivered by September 10.

But several days went by and the missing parts had still not arrived.
