MIDDLETOWN – The entire Middletown Common Council and Mayor Joseph DeStefano, all Democrats, rode the ‘blue wave’ in Tuesday’s elections.
But, DeStefano said it was more than just that; people saw progress in the city with their own eyes.
“They saw crime going down. They saw a lot of investment in our infrastructure. They saw parking garages going up. They saw affordable housing being built. They saw tenant projection put in place with good cause eviction. They saw 12 years of fiscal responsibility staying at or below the tax cap,” he said.
The mayor’s proposed general fund city budget for next year, approved by the board of estimate, came in at just under $53 million with the water and sewer funds total $14.6 million.
