WEST POINT – It has been 36 days since members of the West Point Fire Department have been paid.

They are federal employees and members of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local F-7.

Because of the federal government shutdown, the members have been forced to continue working, but without a paycheck.

Union leadership says they have reached out to local elected officials to voice their concerns “and let them know that their lack of action, and unwillingness to negotiate have real and tangible consequences on their constituents.” But the union says their requests “have gone unanswered and disregarded.”
