WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A child battling leukemia was sworn in as an honorary officer with the McPherson Police Department.

Rhys was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2023, and she has recently finished treatment.

She took the official oath of office on Wednesday, signed by mayor Thomas A. Brown and police chief Mikel T. Golden.

“We got your back, Rhys!” the department said in a social media post.
