BRIDGEWATER TWP, MI - A man who was struck by a car near Manchester on Wednesday afternoon is expected to survive, according to police.

Michigan State Police were called around 2:20 p.m. Nov. 5 to East Austin Road and Schneider Road in Bridgewater Township for a report of a crash between a car and a pedestrian.

A 55-year-old man from Ypsilanti had been driving east on East Austin Road when he struck a man in the roadway. Witnesses told police the man, a 51-year-old from Manchester, had jumped into the road.

The Manchester man was taken by Survival Flight to the University of Michigan Hospital, police said. He is in critical condition but expected to survive.

Police believe the man was having a mental health crisis.

The driver was uninjured, but police discovered he was unlicensed. P
